Surprise cormorant
Mama Squirrel. Whoa!! Isn't it a bit late to be having kids?! They won't survive the winter, if we have a blistering cold winter. Nature is mighty mixed up.

Busy work schedule this week. When if I miss a day it's due to work pressure.
arrived a young red tail hawk. I knew this wouldn't be a good photo op... too many branches and a hoard of screaming blue jays.
Narrow window for shooting and I knew this bird was going to fly. I decided to point-and-shoot.
That was fun. Hawk didn't catch anything. Headed west. More jays screaming in the distance.
This really puzzled me, touch of color in the grey landscape. I think this is a goldfinch, but the beak doesn't look like a finch beak, too pointed, a December puzzle bird.

The alert cooper's hawk...
but it's the rufous hummer that has captured my heart. Thank goodness for the mahonia shrub, handy buds above and below, easy sipping. My pal who lives in North Carolina reports that her mahonia is no longer in blossom.

I wondered about neurological impairment, but when another squirrel appeared he scampered off with him. Tipsy...... pickled, lopsided squirrel.
