Young adults

I haven't seen many nests, but obviously they've been there, well hidden, because these kids are not long out of the nest, trying to act mature, but not quite able to find their own food.

This is called hunt-and-peck.    Bits and twigs. No worms.

Mortality is high in the bird world. The youngsters often meet their end be car crash.

Robin bath

The young robins try to act like adults, but they're still inept.

Bath time is easy. Getting dry isn't.  I didn't go close, because I wanted to watch the whole goofy routine.

Paying attention for any potential danger.

Dry enough. Nothing fancy. Flew off.

Female finch fun

It was an ordinary day in the garden, but ordinary is also special. Female finch making portrait taking almost impossible. Twigs in the way.

Across the path young female finch took a bath in a soup dish. Ever hear of a bad hair day? Hot, humid, delightful bath.  Whats a mess!  No attempt to preen or clean wet feathers.

There's a fungus growing in a nearby knot hole. It must be rotting, because blow flies have arrived. The ordinary surprises in the garden are terrific.

Red, Red and brown

Male cardinal collecting food for either mate or children. Bugs and more bugs.

Another red handsome, the male finch. I wouldn't mind this on my window ledge.

Loads of female finches, mature and immature.

Pigeons doing lots of nothing.
