Redbelly

Reddest redbelly I've seen in a while.

Also in the red finding seeds under the leaves

While it's intensely cold I won't go out with camera.  It's simply too uncomfortable.

Too soon?

Wait a minute!!! It's cold outside. A flock of robins showed up in our garden, at least 15 working the lawn for seeds and worms and couple hitting the berries.

Meanwhile the winter "regulars" are happy with suet mash. The brown creeper.

The sparrows can cling with the best of them,  lording it over a downy.

Finally the downy has some peace to dine alone.

Orange

High above the brown-grey landscape the speckled orange breast of the cooper's hawk stood out.  Hawk on the prowl= small birds take cover. Finally hawk flew north and small bird activity resumed.  Into the grey-brown scene arrived more orange, gorgeous male oriole who's wintering here.

I felt cold watching this. Water level is higher than usual, melted snow.

Hawk!

On the hunt for owls. Instead there's a young redtail.

Wait, wait,  don't fly off....

And high above two mature redtails floating on the thermals.

No owls.
