The kids

My lens isn't powerful enough to really get into this very active nest, Pale Male's kids.
But more intimate are the many screaming young starlings. I love listening as they bellow for food. There's a method. Mama starling ignores kids as best she can as they crowd her. She goes around poking in the ground as if to say, "See what I'm doing? This is how you find your meal."  This mama had three screamers.
Finally she gave in and fed one.  This enraged the others. Fight!
After fight one kid tugged out a worm.
Fake out. No worm.
Finally mama figured out a solution, led her brats to a patch with edible seeds and ran away.
There are never enough wheels as far as kids are concerned.

Astonishing

Into the park at West 69th Street. Big lawn. Worms. Stopped to watch. Yank. Eat. Yank. Eat.
And then I saw this.... very fast...  gag, gag, gag... and up came a huge pellet. I measured it, 1 1/4".  Afterwards robin resumed worming and dining.
Not food this time. Nesting muddy leaves.
Dining on seeds
Sun bathing
Gorgeous song sparrow
Back to nest building.
Yesterday I also posted images on my opera blog-   http://theoperalenz.blogspot.com

Roaming around

Jay's favorite anting spot, very well hidden.
Always funny, pigeons resting next to Central Park cactus  (for real).
Redbelly woodpecker territory.

Berry nice

So convenient. A berry patch. No need to search for food for the kid. Just pluck-and-stuff.
A cozy rest spot
The starling gulps down the whole berry. The cardinal crunches the juice out of it.
Didn't try to get closer. Baby robin gets bug and worm bits.
For a moment I thought I was suddenly rich.  Drug money?  It was a clever scarf.
