Baby #3 a.m.

From now on Baby #3 will be referred to as Amahl. If he turns out to be a she this can be Amahlina. Anyone who knows Menotti's "Amahl and the Night Visitors" will be able to figure out the connection.

Yesterday morning, following the sounds, "peep peep", I found a baby robin up in a tree not far from the nest. In order to see if this was the crippled baby I had to watch the behavior. Would it be possible to see the damaged foot? Would the baby have proper balance? Until yesterday morning I had only seen baby 3 on the ground, unable to get lift-off. This baby was way up a tree. It had to have gotten itself up there.

First clue: one wing on right side hanging down. Helps with balance.

Second clue: Cripppled foot. This is definitely little Amahl. He managed to fly up onto this wide branch. What a determined little bird.

Food delivery time. This is a challenge for Amahl, because he can't grip the tree surface.

The nails on the crippled foot are not being worn down. I don't know if this will be useful or a hinderance.

You can't tell from the images how really dark it was under the leaves. I set the camera ISO at 2000. The digital tool really delivers. More images will be posted this afternoon, the p.m. observations of the trials Amahl faces.
