Astonishing day

Down at the nest. Very off behavior. Mama on nest giving alert call. Nobody is getting fed. One hour. Two hours. No activity in or out of nest. It's hot. Will the babies die from dehydration, malnutrition, heat exhaustion??  Very worried. Has male gotten lost? Has male died? Female frozen in position on nest. Three hours no activity.

And then I hear crows in front of our building. Six crows. Oh!  There's the answer to the frozen activity. Hawk on balcony on 19th floor. Resting, but obviously watching for lunch. I know my neighbor up on 19, so ran up to her apartment and watched hawk through the bedroom window, a juvenile redtail.  Hawk knew I was watching, but couldn't care less.
