A few more hawks

There was something under the logs. No amount of attack was going to result in a catch. That's the way it is sometimes.  Live and learn.

Group 3, hawks

The interest is in the elusive squirrels, maybe some mice and very much the logs, nest material.

                                                        Serious mature redtail hawk.

More hawks in the corner

The job is to catch squirrels and move logs. Intense concentration. Look  at those talons.

Young Hawks

These come from January 2005. I walked across Bow Bridge, turned right and came upon three young red tail hawks facing off against taunting, sassy squirrels. It takes a lot of talent for a young hawk to catch a squirrel. They didn't catch a thing. Nobody else was around to watch this wonderful comedy. Beautiful birds. More pictures will follow.   (Part 2 of Alice and Wonderland was posted on Facebook.)

Alice in Wonderland, Part 1

The Statue of Alice in Wonderland, sculpted by Jose de Creeft, 1959, stands at the north end of the Conservatory Lake in Central Park, approximately East 76th Street. It was conceived as a statue that children would be drawn to. All of the images posted in this blog and the next were shot in 1985 and 1986. There is no longer a privacy issue as all the subjects are now adults. I do not know any of the children. I would drop by with a junky camera and lens, diffusion filter on lens and watch the fun. It was and is always endearing. Only in snowy weather and  intensely hot weather is Alice without company.

I know Alice loves this.  Look at her face.

I was asked to shoot a musical ensemble, 1969 if I remember correctly.  I can't find the negatives, but will keep searching.  Most of the musicians were drawn from the NYC Opera orchestra. Julius Rudel and Judith Somogi are in this group. I know where the negatives should be, but they aren't there.

Sometimes  the statue was a one-step-at-a-time experience. I watched this enchanting child for a while. All she did was go up and down while holding onto the mushroom.

From my files

I'm busy with holiday stuff so will be posting a variety of subjects from my files.  I've got a folder of juvenile hawks from 2009 and images of other subjects in the park as well as a couple of family pictures. If I don't post every day it's due to overload of activities.

Quiet activity

It's kind of quiet downstairs. The small birds do stop at the feeders.. chickadees here.
