Down at the river

One hour to stroll. It felt good to see a juvenile goose in this armada.
Cormorants were resting and preening.
This came as a shock. I suspect these are duck eggs. I saw the lone egg first and felt sad. Then my eyes saw the whole nest, lots of eggs in straw and fluff. Something got at them.
Some of the eggs were still under the straw. I didn't want to poke around.
Not far from the trashed nest is a sitting female, orange markers keeping her safe. At first she was hunkered low in the grass.
It got warmer. She lifted her head to breathe through open mouth.
Hopefully this nest will survive.
