Lunch

Robin nestlings are usually fed an assortment of worms, bugs and berries, sometimes cracker bits. Once they leave the nest the Papa  feeds them and trains them in food hunting for about 30 days while the Mama builds the next nest. Sometimes the Papa will probe the soil, pull up a worm, leave worm on ground for baby to eat. Strong lesson,  dig=find food.   In all the decades I've watched robin behavior I've never seen this. Papa showed up with a mass of nesting material, no worms mixed in. The baby enthusiastically ate the whole mess.  There are,for now,  four new fledglings in this space from two different nests all well nourished. There's protection and food. This was astonishing. I wonder if this kid will be ejecting pellets for a week.
