Mate feeding

The nest is not huge, but wonderfully deep. Nestlings well hidden. I have seen two tiny beaks. There could be more.

I've been watching for hours, because I wanted to document mate feeding.  Cardinals feed their mates. It's wonderfully tender, a big smile when observed. I've watched that many times, but nobody thinks of bluejays as tender. They are tender and protective. Papa collects the food in lower beak and brings the "groceries" home to gently share with nestlings and mate.  This is the first time I've seen this.
