HOT NEWS!!!

Red crossbills in the park, a Central Park first, Shakespeare Garden. There were six or seven, female (yellowish) and male (orangy red). Fascinating to watch. They like the pine nuts in the hemlock trees. Their bills are like pliers. They made me think of parrots.  Fun to watch.  Crunchers.

Well fed silent common yellow throat, female.

Also "talking", young flicker.

Totally uncooperative flycatcher. Close and camera shy.

The clearwing moths really turn me on. If one shows up I have to stand and watch. Nick said this is a snowbird clearwing.

Thought for the day:  an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Apples are good, but "delicacies" rate high on the squirrel gnawing menu.

Young and mature, the cardinals look very pretty while hunting for food.

Bark-eating squirrel. Will it poop toothpicks?

This happened at my feet while walking on 69th street. Sparrow zoomed under a car and caught moth. Gutter lunch.
