It was hot, humid, - steamy- all the elements for watching a very young mockingbird stay cool. Of course there's also the luck of being in the right place at the right time. Normally the mockers are skittish. I don't think I'll ever see such a charming routine again. The open mouth is a bird's way of cooling off.
