Frigid weather

Nuthatch out and about
Carolina wren looking for food
I hate being out when the weather is frigid, but that doesn't mean that I'm not seeing birds. There was a sapsucker in our driveway yesterday, on the ground, pecking at ice and salt bits. It was also going around the big trees at the base of each tree human ankle height.  The day before the starlings were hanging around in front of the market at Broadway and 74th street. One starling picked up a grape, a frozen solid grape. It got the grape into its mouth then jumped up and down until the grape slip down the hatch. Never saw that behavior before.  The week before there were four red tail hawks floating above the school yard at 76th and Columbus. Crows screamed at them, but eventually the crows left.
I'm also busy with opera documentation which is keeping me from hiking around with camera.
