Family planning

There's nothing like a bit of observed adventure while waiting for the light to change.
Oh yes, it's that time of year.
Once hootchy-kootchy is completed it's time to find housing materials.  Raid planter down the block, sparrow Home Depot.

Upstairs

Still some blossoms to sip and nibble
A surprise, the female black-throated blue
Back to the nest material field, female oriole.
And then the scene changed. There was a call and upstairs she flew.
They were not nest-building
Having watched this for a while I wondered what comes first, the hootchy-koochy or the nest, or maybe this is ongoing activity. No matter what was going on it was colorful.

Baby time

I do love this time of year. Babies everywhere. Downstairs in the garden newly fledged starling in grass. Had no idea how to fly over fence to get to parent. Fence only human hip height, but it couldn't get the elevation.
Parent arrived with food. Food??!!!  That's the equivalent of a loaf of bread.
Down the hatch.  That should satisfy baby for a while.
Three seconds later: (scream) MORE!!!!!
Sparrow condo on Amsterdam Avenue
Sparrow duplex on Central Park West
In park, sparrow doing the feed-me-flap
I think there's a worm in the gullet.
Stuffed happy.
I never left Strawberry Fields, just roamed watching babies being fed.

Oriole- no cotoneaster

This was glorious,  private time with Mrs. Oriole, nest collections, bathing, preening. So pretty.
I'll try and find the nest, but that's going to be hard.
