Down by the river

Not too cold. Not too windy. A good day to head down by the river.
Sparrows were investigating the hawk's nest, so if you look carefully you can see her eye peaking through the twigs watching the pesky sparrows. They eventually flew off.

Much more fun was the mockingbird who was "talking" car honk (from the highway) and various bird calls, -chatter, chatter, honk honk, etc.

I was shooting in spurts so didn't see this but the camera got it. Bluejay flew at mocker.

Then they both changed location.

Back to yacketty-yack.

Towards the boat basin.... redbelly woodpecker getting hole grub.

It will get more interesting down by the nest when something hatches.

Catch!

Growing yellow, but not good at sharing.
Back to worming. This is fun to watch. Whip it around.

Not a worm this time. Caught a leaf.

Yummy!

Call Billy!

72nd street and Broadway, right in front of Trader Joe's. Better call Billy the Exterminator.

New York, New York...... it's a wonderful town. You never know what you're going to see.

More than one person shrieked.

Love it!! This is the way to start the week.

Still strolling

This had to be a young female, because she never noticed the already free nut next to the in-shell peanut.

Finally she stopped working on the shell and went to the ready-to-eat nut.

First bird for me at Tanner's Spring, bathing cardinal, and oh boy, was it cold.

Mmmmm, yummy suet for the redbelly woodpecker.

There had to be a hawk in the area because the grackle never moved from the dense branches.

To the point.

Tidy kernel for nuthatch.

Along the way

Sometimes you just go strolling and let eyes pick up bits and pieces, pretty images for the memory bank.

My eyes spotted an interesting piece of "wood". Oops! Not wood, but how did this get onto the path. Totally dead. I picked it up. It was as stiff as wood.

Looks who's turning yellow.

Loads of goldfinches and not in the sharing mood.

It's not easy getting the song sparrow because they're always picking on the ground, head down. One photo op. 125th of a second.
