Baby sitting

Next nest under construction.
Watching babies who are o the ground. Good runners. Good eates.
This is the runt. I've  noticed something growing on side of beak.
Sibling fine
These "growths" appeared suddenly.
This sibling has no growths.
I don't know what these are.... fungus? bacterial? from mulch in the garden? no idea, but not interfering with bird's ability to eat  or mobility.
Nest construction.

The Munchies

It's such fun when the finches fly in. They're neat eaters, pick a spot and stay to dine. First I'm checked out. They know me, safe to munch. The male arrived first.
Mr.s Finch selected a spot higher up and further back.
Upside down munch
New fledge from nest across path. Sitting, a lump on a branch. Maiden flight is tiring.

Finding food

Adult shape but still immature. This smart young robin has figured out what a worm is, how to catch it and how to eat it. Great job.

Berries. Different techniques. Study every berry, then snag the one you want. This can involve juggling and strong wings.
For the starling it's study and pluck. Swallow whole.

Assorted babies

The grounders from the mask nest really can't fly high.
The younger baby from the berry tree nest needs to rest in the bushes. First day activity after leaving nest.
Being on the path is perilous, a good way to get stepped on. I'm baby sitting.
The papa is attentive. All kids being fed.
Mama is building next nest.
Even babies instinctively preen.
In the back garden cardinal is collecting food for nestlings. Nest is across the avenue.
