Smiling

The goldfinches know just where to find seeds.
And Sassy knows just what to do with towels. Nest building time.

Early spring

Strolling, wondering,...... spring colors, but what happens when spring really arrives?
"Conversation" time, chattery titmouse.
Duck soup, shovellers mucking it up.
While strolling this youngster flew right over my head.
Nibbling at squirrel nest bits.
Into another space the coopers hawk arrived silently.
And that brings me to the kind of news I don't like to report. Lima, Pale Male's mate, has died. Cause unknown at the moment. Body taken for necropsy. See Lincoln's site-
www.palemale.com Possible cause- poison rat, but one must not jump to conclusions. Anything might be the cause. And if the cause turns out to be rat poison it could be a rat poisoned outside of the park. Finding the cause is important. Jumping to a conclusion is not helpful.

Never expected

I've never before gotten to talk to a coot. Cute coot seemed to listen.
Turned left. Jeez..... what's that mallard trying to eat???? A chestnut!
Must have learned this trick from the grackles. Soak chestnut and hope it slithers down the hatch. (It didn't.)
I forgot to bring bits for the titmice. Next time.
Never expected this, but it is warm and drinking makes sense. Lovely cedar waxwings.

Hunting

This was the cardinal nest from which the first-hatched plunged during early summer.

One never knows what will be seen. Next stop was the 72nd street lake. Oh good, duck "soup", shovellers stirring up edibles.
The grackle gang.
Fun time, young redtail pursuing lunch.
Hawk bounced off tree trying to catch this sweet critter. Squirrel knows how to hide and then smirk.
And this one was doing the twig jig.
