Surviving in the snow

So nice. Waiting for a handout. The cardinal and the chickadee.

Cold lunch

Jays are grabbing nuts and our back yard is filled with grackles grabbing sparrows' seeds. Marauders.

Total surprise

Couldn't believe it.  It's freezing outside. A flock of robins arrived in our garden, over 30!  Mostly male. Aggressive. As if we don't have enough branches.  It's too soon. It's too cold, but they're here hell bent on staking out claims. There aren't even enough bushes where they can take cover in case of snow. The ground is too hard for digging for worms. But they're here.
Also here, but no surprise, the tufted titmouse, and.....
the yellow bellied sapsucker
but robins??  Not the first time.

Majestic young

Such soulful eyes...... looking for lunch.
Thankfully chickadee didn't end up on the menu.

Eating in the cold

The munchies.  Whatever you can find, eat it.
This was a chestnut in the husk.
Human delivered walnut
A muffin goes a long way
This is trust
I'm going to stop now and have a peanut butter sandwich for lunch.
