The Bluejay

Bluejay downstairs very skittish, so I stood still and made believe I was a tree.  Bluejay came closer and probed in branch nearby. Not scared.
Not exactly substantial food, but probing is a useful skill.

The sparrows

White throated sparrows in love with peanut butter
Singing..... come get the food.
When the cooper's hawk shows up they all vanish.

Cadinal beauty

Testing a new camera body. Wonderful results.
Female cardinal picking up  pods that have fallen from the tree and eating the seeds, hundreds of pods available.
Sweet bird just let me stand there and watch.

Hawk on the prowl

Immature cooper's hawk. Obviously watching for lunch. Branches in the way. Back lighting making shooting difficult.
Finally hawk turned and headed in my direction.
Another tree, worse lighting, but I've seen cooper's hawks dine on this tree before. It caught a small bird, but I could not get the details.
If I had stayed around I could have collected some feathers from the kill. Been there, done that, so I moved on.

Warm weather

Warm weather means I'll head to the park. There's a fellow who applies peanut butter to the tree trunks. The small birds love the stuff. It's gooey when the sun hits it.
Fast bath time.
The bluejays grab what they can. Shy.
The cardinals crunch seed pods to get the nut kernels out, millions of pods. Nobody goes hungry.
