February behavior

The trees are bare but the titmice find edible bits in tree joints and on the ground. A tree limb is a safe place for dining.

The nuthatch seems more curious about the camera lens

First brown creeper I've seen in a while

The male robins are showing up all around the city.

                                                               No long worms yet.

Close-focus dining

Lots of brumble in the way, downy dining.

There's delicious food under the bark and under the leaves. Lots of twigs in the way.

The mix-masters

The shovellers are doing their mixing routine on the 72nd street lake, swirl the water, stir up underwater food. It's a dining ballet.

A cooperative white throated sparrow, portrait time.

Going to a not-my-President march now.

Pleasant day

Gorgeous day. Time to head to the park. First sound- screaming blue jays. Must be a hawk. Sure enough, one red tail on the lookout for food high in a west side tree near 70th street.

Into the Rambles. Small birds happy for handouts. The titmice.... kind of picky..

The nuthatch... also picky.

The titmice always looking for biggest kernel.

And then everyone vanished in a flash because a cooper's hawk arrived. End of feeding fun.

Left over from October

From October 25th, forgot to post. In our garden.  The female finch dropped by while junco checked out berries.

Mrs. Finch really worked the area.

Chickadee and seeds. They're still in the garden, the birds that is.

Ditto for nuthatches and titmice.

Wait a minute!  It's not nest-building time.

Yes it is if you find a potential home site.

Back to seeds. Sparrows know how to cling.
