The sparrows

The immature sparrows make for sweet portrait subjects.
One of the back garden trees has the caterpillar infestation. It could kill the whole tree.

The cardinals

The cardinals know when I have a cup of blueberries in my pocket. I put a few  on the planter ledge and step back.
Everything looks safe so cardinal flies down and grabs a berry. Slow neat eating.
On the other side of the garden the young female was preening.  She also knew I was watching  and she recognized her share of blueberries, but preening came first.
Finally time for lunch.
The cardinals never gorge. They eat what they want and leave the rest for later unless someone else grabs the berries.
