Beauty on the path

Late afternoon, ready to leave the park after having seen almost nothing. On path, startling red, a male scarlet tanager. He probably just flew into the park after a long migration trip, landed just outside of Strawberry Field and had no more energy to fly. Walking on the path was fine as far as he was concerned. Lots of tourists. Out came the cell phones to take pictures. That area is all green, brown, grey and here was this blast of red. I coaxed him into the ivy area. Being on the path was not safe. It could fly short distances, mostly up and down. It was finding food, bugs and worms.  The rain today will help it bathe.  There are tanagers at this time of year, but I've never before met a "grounder".
There's nothing like a red beauty to make a person smile and feel good.
