First there were sparrows and starlings, robins and blue jays, squirrels, and more sparrows. Yawn. Nothing unique, but that didn't stop me from checking every jewel weed and red blossom. Finally, there in the little island in the lake, one hummingbird. I wanted to get closer, but that would have meant wading into the lake. Neck deep. Not exactly acceptable. There will be more I'm sure. For now, here's my first hummingbird of September, a female ruby-throated hummer.
