On the ground

There are hundreds of hermit thrush in the park most hunting bugs in the fallen branches.

But this is the real treat for today. It's two weeks behind the usual date that I see this, a carpet of kinglets. When the grass starts hopping you know what it is, busy kinglets. When I saw this I stopped and stayed put till they vanished. Female golden crowns.

The difference this time was that they had to hunt under snow.

Finally, a male.

More kinglets tomorrow.
