Down by the River, Part 2

One moment the kids were on the ground in the leaves looking for squirrels and suddenly they were in the air calling. It happened so fast that I couldn't put the pieces of the action together.

Mama had food! One baby flew to her, but whatever it was that she had fell to the ground into the tall grass.

Time to search for whatever had dropped.

Aha!! One kid found the goody. Instant mantling. Cover it up so that nobody can see.

But what was the food delivery? Even I could not see what that hawk was guarding.

Oh, yummy. Rat. Note protective posture.

What do you do if you have a goody? Head for the hills. Cover needed. Sharing is not on the agenda.

Meanwhile, the other kid continued looking for whatever had been dropped off.

Oh, ....sibling has something.

If you have something that sibling wants there's no time for manners. No time to eat bit by bit. You eat the whole thing down. Gulp.

Down the hatch. All gone.
To be continued.
