The gentle Papa

A red-breasted nuthatch. I would have missed this bird, but there were two of them having a face-off.

The water thrush up a tree.

It was the sound that drew me to this corner, the "click-click-click-click" of the demanding baby. Feed me! Feed me! The very wise father was trying to teach the kid that food was right there on the ground, pick up and eat.

Baby got fed, then father flew up to a branch above and waited for baby to put pieces of the food puzzle together on its own. This went on for two days.

Food on ground. Feed yourself.

This has to be learned. Parent always watching nearby.
