It was cold and quiet this morning. I didn't see any new warblers, but did spot a flicker digging for grub around a tree trunk. I hid behind a nearby tree and watched this marvelous prober. The flicker is susceptible to attack from above, so it's very wary. Peck, look up, peck, look around, peck, stop and watch, peck, etc. Usually it's not possible to get so close to this gorgeous bird. It was the luck of the draw today.
