Lunge Berries

While leaning against the mulberry tree watching the young robins on the ground there was a sudden thwump over my head. Never mind human presence. This young starling was also going to gorge on berries.

While watching all the mulberry activity my eyes spotted starling scrimmage. It went on for over an hour. Somebody had thrown food onto the grass and the starlings were doing grab-and-run. At first I could not figure out what the food was. There were thin slices of sweet apple, freeze dried. Whoever got a slice ran with it. It was sticky. They'd try to eat a bite, but it would stick to their beak. Back and forth, back and forth. The slices did eventually get completely eaten. The grab-and-dash covered the whole middle of the yard.

Good stuff, but so sticky. Mulberries are much less trouble.
