Chowing down

Hungry! This was not a day of dining on bits. The babies now wolf down food. When Mama arrived with a rat the babies grabbed it. She had a real tussle getting it back to oversee who ate what. The rat was finished off faster than I've seen anything consumed in that nest to date. And then the babies napped and napped and napped,- full, comfortable. The human audience wants the babies to fledge, but we don't know what happens in the wild, how soon nestlings fledge. It may be that hawks in the "wild" need to fledge fast. We have urban hawks, very cozy the way they are.
