Screamer

Oh, I hope this monk parakeet finds a playmate. There are others in the city. Maybe he/she drops by because we have the berries. There's no concern about the proximity of the other berry eaters, no territorial squabbles. It's the "yelling" that lets you know Monk is here. This is a screamer with a voice that reverberates off the tall buildings, not easy to find at first because green blends into green, but once spotted this is a fine subject to observe. On Saturday Monk was much more out in the open. This bird is about 11" long. Big bird, big sound.

I talked to the bird and whistled various melodies. It didn't talk, but did a lot of screaming. I finally shut up and just watched. And it watched me. A West End Avenue mulberry lover.
