The Tuesday visitor - MONK PARAKEET

This was the noisiest visitor we've had in the garden ever. It can survive here for the summer. I hope it has a homing instinct, but it didn't seem inclining to want to come to anyone who "talked" to it. Will report later as to whether it's still in the garden. One escapee enjoying freedom.

You can judge its size by comparing with the leaves behind it. This was not a tiny bird, larger than a robin. And vocally, volume beat all.
JUST GOT BETTER INFORMED BY A BLOG-WATCHER. THEN CHECKED ONLINE. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A MONK PARAKEET. USUALLY THEY TRAVEL IN FLOCKS. THIS WAS A SOLITARY VISITOR.

Hi, Beth,

I've been following both your blogs for some time now and absolutely love your work! This "Tuesday visitor" is a Quaker Parrot--probably, as you surmised, an escapee from an owner. It should be able to survive outdoors as they are quite hardy. There are actually colonies of them in a couple of the neighboring boroughs. I think you captured the very outgoing personality of this species perfectly in your photos. Thanks for your fantastic pictures!
