Alpha baby

There's no way of knowing what you're going to see on any given day.
Right in the garden, Papa robin collecting chow for nestlings, but I didn't want to linger. The day's goal- check on Riverside Park hawks.

11:00 a.m. Baby using nest as trampoline.

11:02a.m. Alpha baby fledged to neighboring tree. Smooth flight. Clutsy landing, but it was very windy. It was even hard holding camera still.

Maneuvered around in that tree before flying short distance to next tree.

Lots of observing... watching the world.

Moved to another spot in tree, more sheltered. The wind was whipping up white caps on the river.

Meanwhile, over in nest second baby is observing everything.

Mama flew in with food. Both Mama and nestling ate. Never saw Alpha Baby eat during the four hours of observation. The day before, I was told, Alpha Baby flew back to nest for meals.

More to follow. Still editing this huge take. Gorgeous fledgling.
